Psalm 31:24

Just Wait!

Psalm 31:24: “Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD!”‍

It reminds me of when the Israelites were standing with the Red Sea on one side of them and they could see the dust clouds of Pharaoh’s armies approaching in the distance. There was no where to run. There was no where to hide. There was nothing to do but wait for this angry army to come. Can you imagine their anxiety…the fear… the stress… the doubt. They cry out to Moses as the wait their doom… “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die?…It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”

Some of you don’t have to imagine it because you may be going through some of that kind of stress, fear, and anxiety right now. But God gives a very clear message to you today.

Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Ex 14:13-14).

Did you hear that? You only need to be still! Just wait!

WAIT - No way, I ain’t got time for that. I hate just waiting especially when the bad things are looming. I hate waiting in the surgery waiting room. I hate waiting for the doctors office to call with test results. I hate waiting for ambulance to arrive in an emergency. I hate waiting…

BE STILL - Waiting is bad enough but be still? I want to pace the floors. I want to be active. When I’m still my mind floods with terrible thoughts… How can I be still?

Psalm 46:10 says, “BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD!…” We can be still when we know that God is going to act. We can be still in knowing that he is the answer. We can be still when we trust in him.

Anticipation is the key. When you know that God is going to act… going to rescue… going to redeem… then you can be still in anticipation of when and what God is going to do.

The Key is Anticipation… Anticipation sparks excitement, excitement sparks joy, joy explodes out of you. Waiting on the Lord in anticipation of his arrival with the answers and blessings and mercy, and love, and help, and guidance, and power…. Just what you need at just the right time!

Psalm 31:24: “Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD!”‍
