#9 - IMMATURE / WEAK FAITH
#9. Immature/weak faith - There are a number of immature Christians today. Some are Christians in name only. Some have never grown up because they simply purchased their “golden ticket” for heaven and they don’t feel like they need to get anymore involved than that. Some purchased their “fire insurance” or “get out of jail free card” and so they continue in life as if nothing significant ever happened. And there are others who don't grow because they are lazy.
What amazes me more than all this is those that have been “in the church” for years and yet openly admit that they are babies in the faith. They are almost proud of their immaturity.
Joseph Alexander Nagy Jr. stated in a recent survey that, “They feel no conviction in their own life and have not had that transforming experience that would give them a true testament of the Lord's work in their life.”
As Christians, we were made to grow. We are to “hunger and thirst” for righteousness. We are to crave the Word. We are to stretch our faith and grow into mighty oaks of righteousness. If you aren't growing you are dying.
Don't get me wrong. I will be the first to admit that I haven't reached full maturity. I still struggle with things that I should have gotten straight a long time ago. I'm not sure I Iknow anyone would say, “I’ve made it,” or “I am a fully mature Christian.” I have been a Christian since my youth and I am still not there. But each day of life is growing experience by which we discover new truths each day. We won’t reach full maturity until we reach the other shore.
Until then, I look to some of the spiritual giants of the faith and draw inspiration. Augustine, Martin Luther, Barton W. Stone, Thomas Campbell, Alexander Campbell, D.L. Moody, Charles Spurgeon, Ashley Johnson, Big Jim Heaton, Billy Graham, Don Dewelt, and a great cloud of witnesses have set the mark for me. All of who were not afraid to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and their testimony. I will share my faith too.
Hebrews 5:13-14 (NIV)says, "Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil." Are you mature enough to share what God has done for you?
PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear Lord of Heaven and Earth; I praise you for all that you have done. Thank you for the meat of your word. Help me to be fully mature and to share my testimony... the testimony of what you have done for me through Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. It is in his name that I pray. AMEN.
