28 Helpful Hints For Bible Reading

8. Read the Bible in a group, family, or with a friend - Psalm 119:14

8. Read the Bible in a group, family, or with a friend - Psalm 119:14

Psalm 119:14 - I rejoice in following your statutes

as one rejoices in great riches.

There once was a woman who won a cash prize. As soon as all the taxes and other legalities were done she threw a great party for all her friends. She had fine food catered from a well known chef. She served champaign even though she herself did not like it. She hired an chamber orchestra to play. And at the end of the day she gave all her friends some really nice presents and cash gifts. At the end of the month she had spent all her prize money. When a reporter asked her why she did it she said, "I wanted to share my winnings with my friends and have a party that I would remember always."

The Bible, God's Word, is the greatest literary treasure of all time. It's pages contain the wisdom and wealth beyond on measure. It contains the key to a relationship with God, abundant life, and our salvation. With a wealth so great it only makes sense to share it with the ones we love.

I have a friend who is not wealthy, nor has she ever won the lottery. But every Thursday morning her friends all come over to her house for coffee, biscuits and jam. During the week they have all read their assigned Bible reading. So they talk and laugh and visit for a while. And they read some of the key verse from their Bible readings. Then they talk casually about how the Word applies to them and they pray together. You might say it is kind of a Holy Book Club. My friend believes in sharing the wealth she has with others.

The other day a man was telling me how a few of his co-workers got together before work to read God's word together. He told how quickly the time goes. He can't wait to get back to the Word tomorrow.

I must admit that some of my favorite times of church and Bible study is the reading of God's word together. There is something powerful and unifying reading the word of God together.

You might want to ask your family or friends if they would like to get together for a reading of God's Word. Then take a few moments to share thoughts and understanding. Use the rest of the day to encourage and hold each other accountable to God's word.

May God bless you today as your share in the treasure that is God's Holy Bible.

PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear Father in Heaven, God we praise you for your word and the testimony of those who have shared this wealth. Please bless us as we read your holy word together and hold each other accountable. In Jesus' name, AMEN!
