Romans 15:13 – May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
I have talked with many people who are obese. They tell me that the hardest part of their situation is the total lack of hope. They struggle with depression and self-loathing. I can relate because I have been there with them too. And it doesn’t feel good not being able to see your toes, let alone touch them.
The greatest comfort to me in my life and on my weight loss journey is that God is with me and it is he who gives me hope. When life feels empty and void God can fill you with peace, hope, and yes, even joy. He can make the difference and change our sorrow to joy.
We so underestimate the Holy Spirit. I don’t think we understand God’s Holy Spirit as much as we understand his Son, Jesus. Jesus is “God with Us” but the Holy Spirit is “God in us”. It is this spirit that guides, helps, and comforts us. His Spirit even prays for us when we don’t even know how to put our experience into words. How awesome is that?
God’s Spirit isn’t just here to help us with the religious stuff. His Spirit helps us where ever we need it. Yes, the Holy Spirit is moving in my life and helping me to lose weight. It makes sense, God has called us to be a living testimony of his power, love, and grace and we need to be healthy and strong as his living testament to what he can do in our lives.
The problem is that not many of us want to give up control of our lives. That is probably why the Word tells us not to put out the fire of the Holy Spirit. When we put our will over His than we are throwing water on the Lord’s Spirit in our lives. We need to fully trust him so that he can fill us with hope. Then we will see how the power of the Holy Spirit can overflow from our lives and affect others for the kingdom.
“Hope is some extraordinary spiritual grace that God gives us to control our fears, not to oust them.”
Prayer Thought: Dear God, Thank you for being my creator-God. I praise you for Jesus and the sacrifice he made by taking my sins on himself and dying on the cross. I praise you for the victory over death, sin, and Satan when Jesus rose from the grave. I worship you for the Spirit you have given to me. I ask that you fill me with hope, peace, love, and power through your Spirit so that I may be a bright light and a testament to your glory. I love you, Lord. Thanks for loving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
