God's Eternal Word

Psalm 119:89-90

God’s Word is Eternal

Ps 119:89-90; Various

Good evening and welcome to BCCC and our nightly devotional study.

I want to encourage you tonight with something special. This world is in a lot of chaos and disorder right now. Between the coronavirus, the protest and riots, murder hornets, and political rhetoric, we need a bit of encouragement.

Psalm 119:89-90 says, “Your eternal word, O Lord, stands firm in heaven. Your faithfulness extends to every generation, as enduring as the earth you created.”

We are blessed to have the word of God. It was given to us by God through about 40 different divinely inspired people over the period of about 2,000 years. It was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic and translated into Latin, then German. As of October 2019 the full Bible has been translated into 698 languages, the New Testament has been translated into an additional 1,548 languages and Bible portions or stories into 1,138 other languages.

According to Psalm 119:89-90, God’s Word is settled in heaven. There, the original word of God stands.
What we have here on earth is the absolute, divine inspired copy of the original Word of God. And, I hold a good copy of it in my hands.

Jesus said, “Heaven and Earth Will Pass Away, but My Words Will Never Pass Away” (Matthew 24:35). God’s word is permanent. It won’t perish because it is spoken by the eternal God, the first and the last. It won’t pass away because it stands firm in heaven. It won’t pass away because it is where God is.

For this reason, among others, faith is not a leap in the dark. Faith is based upon the Word of God which will never pass away. There is no risk in believing in the truth of God’s Word that is fixed firmly and forever in heaven. You can surly trust in God’s Word.

The faithfulness of God is also displayed in His works. The works of God’s hands are seen in the order and precision of nature. We see the consistency of nature every day when we get up. No one races to the window to see if the sun came up. When know it did because it came up yesterday and the day before, and the day before. It is this kind of faithfulness that we find in God. He will always be there so we can be confident in Him and in His Word.

God’s works can also be seen in the lives of believers throughout the ages. God’s mercies and grace extends to all generations of believers, “being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6 NKJV).

My friend, you can trust in the Word of God because God is faithful to His Word. You can trust in God for your salvation, because God is faithful to His Word. God will always be with us till the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and for all eternity, because of what Jesus Christ His Son did for us on the Cross on Calvary.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (Jn 1:1-4,14)

Jesus is Logos. Jesus is the eternal word of God. Trust in Him.

PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear God, Lord, Savior. Thank you for your eternal word. Thank you for your faithfulness. Thank you for Jesus. Encourage our hearts with your word today and everyday. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!

Good night and God bless you.
