THE POWER OF PRAYER
Good evening and welcome to our nightly Bible devotional. Tomorrow is National Day of Prayer. And so tomorrow we are going to have something fun to do here at the church. We are offering a special National Day of Prayer Walk in which we have 7 stations of prayer set up for you to go to pray about different things. These stations are set up right now and will be ready for you to come anytime tomorrow and walk the prayer coarse at your leisure. The great thing is that we are not meeting so all you have to do is maintain social distancing with anyone else who is here. We hope you will come… the weather is supposed to be nice.
So tonight, in preparation for National Day of prayer I thought I might share the Prayer acrostic and some scripture verses that go along with each part. The Acrostic is P-R-A-Y or Praise, Repent, Ask, and Yield. Some of the biggest “prayer blockers” are when we make prayer about us and our list of wants and needs. This method of prayer brings the focus back to God and helps us to pray effectively.

Matthew 6:9 - “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,…”
Psalm 103:1-5 - Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
Colossians 3:17 - And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 - Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Repent - contrition/asking for forgiveness
Psalm 51:1-4 - ”Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight— That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge." (Psalm 51:1-4)
James 5:6 - “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

Psalm 53:10-12 - Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
Luke 3:8 - “Produce fruit in keeping with repentance…”
Ask - request / petitions / supplication / intercession

Luke 18:7,8 - “And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
