31 Christian Ways To Reduce Stress

9. Pace Yourself - Ephesians 5:15

9. Pace yourself -Ephesians 5:15

Ephesians 5:15 - Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise

I have some major projects due at the first of the month. My deadline is firm and cannot be moved or changed. At one time it gave me great stress when I realized that it was the last week of the month and I had not finished them yet. But it doesn’t give me grief any longer.

I learned if I did a few minutes of work on it a couple times a week I would have more done by the deadline and have less stress.

I believe that this works for a lot of things. If you spread out big challenges and difficult projects over time it won’t be so hard. If your deadline is not firm you may want to avoid lumping the hard things all together. If you can whittle those down a bit at a time it won’t be so big a job.

I mentioned the other day that we are working to organize the basement and get rid of some things. At first glance it is a huge project that can overwhelm you to the point of not knowing where to start. But we have started to chip away at it a little at a time. It’s getting done with less stress and greater efficiency.

This can also be done with house cleaning. If you pick a room to do major cleaning in once a week it makes it easier to handle in little chunks. It’s a whole lot better than trying to do all your housework on the one day a week you have off.

Rick Warren said, “Time is your most precious gift, because you only have a set amount of it.”  That is really true! And the more you spend that in stressful hours the less time you will have. Studies show that worry and stress can reduce your lifespan and cause a myriad of health issues.

Remember the moral or lesson of the story of the tortoise and the hare. “Slow and steady wins the race.” Take your time and pace yourself. Do it right the first time.

May the Lord bless you today as you pace yourself. Don’t forget to ask him his advise and for his wisdom. His will is the most important thing you can consider.

PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear Heavenly Father; You could have spoke all creation into existence in one day but you did it in six. Not because you had to rest or you had to let things mature. I believe you set the example for us in pacing ourselves and giving ourselves proper rest. Thank you for your concern for our well-being. Help me to always consider your will over mine as I fix my schedule and work. In Jesus’ precious name, AMEN!
