10. Take one day at a time - Matthew 6:34
Matthew 6:34 -Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Last January, my father-in-law, Richard, had his leg amputated because of an ulcer on his foot that would not heal due to blood circulation problems caused by diabetes. While he was in the hospital the doctors, nurses, CNAs, and physical therapist all told him not to worry and to take one day at a time. Richard would just smile because he had long preached Matthew 6:34 to those in his congregation.
Sometimes we get so worried about the future and how to deal with our problems down the road. We worry about how we will pay this bill before it is due or we worry about how our children will turn out or we get anxious about where the money will come from for college tuition and etc., etc., and so on. Those are all genuine concerns but we if we get so worried about all that we are distracted from trusting in God and doing his will.
His will is the key to all this. So often we are so overwhelmed with our burdens and concerns down the road that we forget to ask God his will and for his blessings. God knows the big picture. He has the answer to your problems. He also has big pockets than you and he knows where the money will come from if we are living according to his will.
The point, of course, is not to worry at all. Don’t get caught up in worldly concerns but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. In doing so you will be able to determine and respond to God’s perfect will (Romans 12:2).
One year, and three surgeries later, Richard is doing fine. He is walking on a prothesis with a walker. He just started driving again. He is leaning how to go up and down stairs with a cane. We pray that he will soon be able to walk without any assistance but we keep reminding ourselves to take one day at a time and to bath that moment in prayer seeking God’s will and way.
May God bless you today as you take it a day at a time. May you receive a blessing by seeking his will and way. Trust in Him for all your tomorrow needs and live for him day by day.
PRAYER THOUGHT: You, Father God, hold the future in your hands. You own the cattle on a thousand hills. You feed and care for the birds and animals. You clothe all of nature in splendor. By your will all things come to being. Help me to trust in you and live each day, hour, minute, and second at a time. Transform my thinking so that I may understand and follow your will. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
